An offline Tagalog Bible app with no data
Most Bible apps say “offline” but mean “we cached the book you last opened.” Open a translation you have not downloaded, or lose signal at the wrong moment, and you are stuck. For a Tagalog reader — especially one on a prepaid plan, in a low-coverage area, or working overseas — that is the difference between a Bible that is always there and one that is not.
Scribe takes the other approach: the entire library is bundled inside the app at install. That includes both Tagalog translations.
Two Tagalog Bibles, already on your phone
Scribe ships Ang Dating Biblia (ADB) — the classic 1905 Tagalog Bible — and the Tagalog Unlocked Literal Bible (TULB), a modern, more literal rendering. Both are in the free tier, so reading them costs nothing and needs no purchase.
Because they are bundled, they work with zero data. After you install the app once, you never spend a peso of load to read. No streaming, no per-book download, no “connect to continue.” That holds on a plane, in the province, or on an expensive roaming plan abroad.
No account, nothing phoning home
There is no login and no sign-up. Your reading position, bookmarks, and highlights stay on the device — Scribe does not sync them to a server because there is no server and no account. For a lot of readers that is simply less friction; for anyone who would rather not hand over an email to read the Bible, it is the point.
Made for the diaspora, too
A large share of Tagalog speakers read the Bible far from home — nurses on shift, seafarers, OFWs, immigrants in a new country juggling data costs. An app that assumes cheap, constant internet does not fit that life. One that bundles everything and asks for no connection does. You get the ADB you grew up with, plus English translations for the days you want to compare wording, all working the same whether you have five bars or none.
What else is in the box
Reading is free, but the same app carries more if you want it:
- Search every translation — including both Tagalog Bibles — offline, from a word or fragment. Not locked behind any purchase.
- English word study. Tap a word in the free BSB or MSB to reach the Greek or Hebrew behind it, with the full LSJ and BDB lexicons — the original-language study a Tagalog reader can’t get elsewhere. (This is a Scholar feature; the Tagalog text itself is not tagged.)

If the pull for you is simply reading Scripture with no subscription and no data plan, that is the free core of Scribe — own the rest once if you ever want it, or never, and keep reading Tagalog for nothing. For the low-connectivity case in general, the offline Bible study with no data plan post covers how the bundled-library approach holds up.
